Death

Live ready to meet Allah.

Death is certain, yet we live as if we have endless time. We postpone repentance, delay apologies, and assume there will always be another morning to become the person we claim we want to be. Remembering death is not meant to freeze you in fear. It is meant to wake you into a more honest life.

Living ready to meet Allah means keeping short accounts. Repent early. Repair relationships you have damaged. Pay debts you can pay. Free your heart from grudges that only poison you. Do good while your hands still move. The tragedy is not only that life ends — it is that we waste the part that is still here.

Fear of death without hope is incomplete. A believer fears standing before Allah and also hopes in His mercy. That balance produces action: salah protected, sins reduced, charity given, Qur’an opened. Despair produces nothing. Heedlessness produces regret. Hope with effort produces a life that can end without panic.

Visit the reminders around you. Illness in a community. News of a funeral. Your own mirror aging quietly. These are not morbid curiosities. They are messengers. When your heart softens at a janazah and hardens again by dinner, notice that pattern and ask Allah for a remembrance that lasts longer than a moment.

Prepare practically too. This is not only spiritual poetry. Take care of your family’s needs. Document what must be documented. Do not leave chaos as an inheritance if you can leave clarity. Responsibility is part of readiness.

If anxiety about death overwhelms you, do not drown alone in it. Return to tawhid, to dua, to righteous company, and if needed to trusted counsel. The point of remembering death is to increase good and decrease delay — not to destroy your ability to function.

Today, live one hour as a person who knows time is limited. Pray it. Speak truth in it. Forgive in it. Thank Allah in it. Readiness is built in hours like that, stacked until they become a life.

Readiness is often boring from the outside: praying on time, telling the truth, lowering the gaze, paying what you owe, refusing gossip. Do those boring things today with the intention of meeting Allah. Excitement is not the measure of sincerity. Consistency is. When death comes — and it will — you will want a history of ordinary obedience more than a memory of dramatic intentions you never lived.

Let this reminder leave you with one commitment you can keep before the day ends — not ten intentions you will forget. Choose the smallest faithful next step, ask Allah for help with it, and do it while the heart is still soft. Depth in the deen is often built from steps that look ordinary from the outside and sincere from the inside.
